Gingrich after Columbine: “I want to say to the elite of this country – the elite news media, the liberal academic elite, the liberal political elite: I accuse you in Littleton…of being afraid to talk about the mess you have made, and being afraid to take responsibility for things you have done, and instead foisting upon the rest of us pathetic banalities because you don’t have the courage to look at the world you have created.” (Source)
My ears are ringing, because I’ve heard this all before from a couple of “SEND ME YOUR MONEY” evangelicals, known to follow the Gingrich-method in this regard, always eager to strike while the iron’s hot:
Pat Robertson after 9/11: “I therefore believe that that created an environment which possibly has caused God to lift the veil of protection which has allowed no one to attack America on our soil since 1812.”
Jerry Falwell after 9/11: “I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians…the ACLU…all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say ‘you helped this happen.” (Source)
On ABC’s This Week, host George Stephanopoulos asked Gingrich if he would apply those same words to the Virginia Tech tragedy. Gingrich said “yes”. (Source)
