truthout.org: Rove Has Been Indicted

Karl Rove Indicted on Charges of Perjury, Lying to Investigators
By Jason Leopold
t r u t h o u t | Report – Saturday 13 May 2006

Probably a year ago I made a bet with Lee from RTFTLC that Rove would be charged with a crime, something about admitting whoever was wrong on both sites.  Can someone reach out and remind our friend of that?  This is one I was right about from the begining.  His habit of telling lies in practically all situations involving what he does behind the curtain caught up with him, and like all headstrong spin hoars, they fly too close to the sun.

My assumption has been for a long time, that Rove is the most crafty political technician in the game, complete with the instinct to know when it was time to go for broke down in the gutter, “get out the vote”.  He cheats, lies and has stolen in the past to win a campaign.  Celebrated on the right, given a pat on the back by the people around him, Rove is strikingly similar in his job description to the kid on the playground back in school who would eat worms for money.  If he hadn’t truly earned the nickname “Turd Blossom”, chances are we’d never have heard of the guy.  Now Bush AND Cheney are without their nerd admirer/fall guy, just in time for Democrats to win back the power to investigate.

And in the spirit of irony on a grand scale – they will be without the necessary spin required to come out of all this on top, having gone all-in with the pre-war spin…which is what all of this is about in the first place.  Hence the lying to investigators, in grand jury testimony, etc.  They couldn’t come out with the President speaking to reporters and stating that Wilson’s editorial was false or suspicious for some reason…WHY NOT?

The bully pulpit!  This guy only thinks it’s worth using when it comes to talking about 9/11, who to attack next and tax cuts…so it’s no secret there’s an unwillingness to make statements, to think about a question and speak off the cuff about anything.  It’s always a string of talking points repeated over and over and over.  This is because nobody wants to be blamed for anything that goes wrong, while at the same time being told they have to pretend that nothing’s even wrong in the first place.

So how do you take care of the Joe Wilson problem?  If everyone who works at the White House knows that the Niger statement shouldn’t have been said by the President, and the cat’s already out of the bag…it’s the precise moment when a TRUE Captain of Industry selects the appropriate lackie and promptly sacrafices him to the Gods.  They assure the poor fool that everything will work out, and that after they come down on this CIA agent, the rest will learn the lesson and toe the line.

It’s the same thing that happens in sweatshops.  Once in a while someone asks to go to the bathroom, then another…you’ve got to beat one of these people senseless with a bat once in a while, to convince the others that they’re better off holding it and keeping their mouth shut.

They do this with the military, the intelligence communities AND the states (think No Child Left Behind).  The ultra-authoritarian parent model applied to anyone who can be scared into doing what they’re told.  They’re applying it to Iran today.  Parent-child-no room for discussion or negotiation.

Sherman, you are quite funny. Turd Blossom. I love it.

I’ll have a beer (maybe a shot) when news of his indictment hits the news (I don’t drink much).

I’m sure Lee will hear about it soon.

  2. captain_menace says:

Now Scott McClellan’s resignation makes a lot more sense. If Rove was going to be exposed and the administration knew it then McClellan would have had absolutely no credibility with the press. He adamantly defended Rove throughout the entire ordeal.

  3. karl says:

Looks like it may go higher:

WASHINGTON – The prosecutor in the CIA leak case said more than six months ago that he was not alleging any criminal acts by Vice President Dick Cheney regarding the leak of agency operative Valerie Plames identity.

Today, the prosecutor is leaving the door open to the possibility that the vice presidents now-indicted former chief of staff, I. Lewis Libby, was acting at his boss’ behest when Libby allegedly leaked information about Plame to reporters.

A new court filing presents handwritten notes of Cheney. Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald is using them to assert that the vice president and Libby, working together, were focusing much attention on Plame and her husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, a Bush administration critic.

I wonder what would happen to Bush if both Rove and Cheney were gone. He might actually do the right thing occassionally.

  4. Is this even real? I expected an article in the NYTimes this morning, but the front page was a ghost town. On Think Progress there’s video of Rove this morning being asked about throwing McClellan under a bus, asked by David Corn…something tells me truthout.org jumped the gun.

Last night I went through half of Fitz’s court filings, and it’s pretty bad for everyone involved – – – the Cheney thread is most definitely alive. Whether or not Rove was actually indicted though, I’m short on time (starting school today – more on that later), if anyone sees something, please post a link here.

Turd Blossom…imagine a group of people you regard as friends giving you this nickname!

I’ve been hearing news of this throughout the blogosphere, but I’ll believe it when I see it.

Then again, this NSA phone recording BS hasn’t really been reported much either. Never can tell…

  6. captain_menace says:

I wonder if this item was intentionally leaked by a Rove agent to make the liberals look looney?

  7. S. R. says:

    If so, they’ve done a good job! : P

  8. Everybody wants to be a hero, break the code, bring down the man, get many people to click on their google links…

  9. Right Thinker says:

I wonder if this item was intentionally leaked by a Rove agent to make the liberals look looney?

And it worked like a charm. Hook, line and sinker. Rove will not be charged and Libby will be acquitted, that’s my prediction.

I’ve always said you can’t condemn a guy for exposing a government official working in a treasonous manner against the U.S., you just can’t.

Hopefully, Plame/Wilson are so discredited that they can’t do anymore damage to America.

  10. Right Thinker says:

It’s ironic that a website called Truth.org started a completely false rumor and it spread like wildfire through the liberal community. And they are still standing by the debunked story, the Rov was indicted last week, which never happened. Rove Drangement Syndrome, another sad case.

  11. karl says:

    RT:

It is ironic that you have been reduced to bragging about who hasn’t been indicted.

  12. captain_menace says:

    RT is a Republican shill.

The Republicans wouldn’t be in nearly so much political trouble if they had simply focused inward rather than directing all of their energy towards a beaten Democratic party. Doesn’t make sense to kick your brother when he’s down, unless you want to look like a real heartless bastard. Regardless of left or right we are Americans, and continually kicking at a beaten group of Americans is just self-defeating.

There are a lot of things that the Republican party theoretically stands for that I’m in favor of (fiscal restraint, personal responsibility, etc.). I’m not sure how any rational person could get behind the Republican party at this point other than out of sheer blind devotion… go team!

  13. karl says:

    CM:
It seems like the Repubs are trying to improve the immigration problems but their base wont let them, the repubs run into the same problem with things like fiscal restraint. It is hard to balance the budget when you are trying to publicly fund abstinence programs and reward your business supporters with pork barrell projects.

The repubs are victim of their own alternative universe that somehow tells people everything is OK, while the US is losing a war, and becoming an international laughing stock. Anytime reality sneaks into their vision they get angry, like when they learn that the US does not have the resources to deport 12 million people and in addition no one would be available to do the work if we did.

Life is filled with compromises and I am starting to think about 30% of our country is not able to understand that.

  14. Right Thinker says:

It is ironic that you have been reduced to bragging about who hasn’t been indicted.

No, I’m bragging about how the Republicans have the Democrats chasing their tails right before an election cycle. This has nothing to do with indicting Rove and everything to do with how empty and void the Democratic party is.

    RT is a Republican shill.

Awe, and I haven’t said anything nice about you lately. I promise that will change!!!

The Republicans wouldn’t be in nearly so much political trouble if they had simply focused inward rather than directing all of their energy towards a beaten Democratic party.

The energy spent on the “beaten Democratic Party” couldn’t light a candle. Remember, its the Democrats who are obstructing everything from judges to child protection from pedophiles. Talk about a party that needs to focus inward. And don’t you dare fire Howard Dean, I haven’t had such a good laugh since Clinton couldn’t remember the definition of the word “is”.

Regardless of left or right we are Americans, and continually kicking at a beaten group of Americans is just self-defeating.

What’s with the new philosophy of “can’t we all just get along?” I’ll have to look back at the posts to pinpoint your starteling transformation…

I’m not sure how any rational person could get behind the Republican party at this point other than out of sheer blind devotion… go team!

The obvious answer is the Democrats are worse. While I am not thrilled about close to half of the Republican party platform, I despise about 90% of the liberal platform.

while the US is losing a war, and becoming an international laughing stock.

Again with the losing the war. Are Iraqi landing craft waiting off the shore of Delware preparing to invade D.C. and end our Democracy forever? Has Saddam toppled the U.S. government and I just haven’t heard about it yet?

I’d like to know who is laughing at us internationally and who matters? Lybia isn’t laughing, N Korea isn’t laughing, Iran isn’t laughing, Venezuala and Cuba aren’t laughing. France is it’s own joke.

Karl, why do you care so much about what other people think of you?

    pork barrell projects.

The pot calls the kettle black. Funny how the times have changed, didn’t Democrats invent the pork barrel and earmarks???

does not have the resources to deport 12 million people and in addition no one would be available to do the work if we did.

So, what, maybe 2 million of the 12 million have jobs, illegally I might add. The unemployment rate, very low thanks to Bush, is about 15 million Americans. We will still would have unemployed people if all the illegals left. This is obviosly a rough estimate but it’s close.

Life is filled with compromises and I am starting to think about 30% of our country is not able to understand that.

Are you talking about the 30% of House and Senate that is Democrat controlled?

  15. captain_menace says:

Awe, and I haven’t said anything nice about you lately. I promise that will change!!!

Nothing personal of course, but you only present a single side of any issue (the Republican side). I have yet to see you accept the reality that there are at the very least two sides to every issue. And neither side is necessarily more “correct” than the other side. Public health is a great example. You can easily argue either way but neither side is more right.

I’m curious to know how you define the Republican platform and the Democratic platform?

And don’t you dare fire Howard Dean, I haven’t had such a good laugh since Clinton couldn’t remember the definition of the word “is”.

Laugh all you like. I’m not particularly a Dean fan, but I think he is correct in that the Democratic party will change for the better when it gets back to focusing more of its effort at the local level (and when it gets rid of some of the dinosaurs). My view of parties is much more influenced by local politics than national politics. And for what it’s worth our Republicans are as corrupt as any (and they are definitely the majority up here). However, in all fairness the Republicans that make up my local assembly are a good bunch. We’ve got well-managed growth through fair property and sales taxes.

  16. karl says:

    CM:

Did you see Dean on the daily show? He is a little bit of a boob, but he made a great point about a 50 state plan. I wish Hillary would be quiet, her whole kids don’t work hard enough speech was pretty pathetic.

Right: Are you one of the put all the illegals in box cars repubs?

  17. captain_menace says:

Yeah, I did. I get really sick of ALL politicians. Dean isn’t as bad as most because he can at least laugh at himself and the political process.

Time to buy stock in box car manufacturers eh?

I liked the piece Stewart did a week or so ago on rounding up illegal immigrants. Something along the lines of… “no problem, it’ll work just like it did with Elian Gonzalez, times 12 million” (click me).

  18. karl says:

I just got back from walking my dog, I live in an area where they are doing losts of renovation, so I probably walked by four or five construction sites. Judging by the music selection and the language being spoken I would say most the construction workers were from spanish speaking countries. I don’t get how the US is better off if we deport these guys.

  19. captain_menace says:

I think I may have found a fix for all of this.

We can simply annex all of central America down to and including Panama.

Since Panama has a very short border, it should be very easy to control who crosses it.

  20. karl says:

As far as annexing central America don’t you kind of get the the you broke it you bought it problem.

  21. I wonder if this item was intentionally leaked by a Rove agent to make the liberals look looney?

RT: And it worked like a charm. Hook, line and sinker. Rove will not be charged and Libby will be acquitted, that’s my prediction.

The man from Vegas puts his chips down on red-22. The odds are similar in my opinion. Not having time to put too much together, I will make a point of posting all the documents Fitzgerald has filed. The evidence is right there as far as whether or not Plame was talked about as high up as Cheney (per his own handwritten note on Joe Wilson’s op-ed) – and we also know that both Scooter (perfect name for a perfect douchebag) and Rove discussed it with reporters, Miller and Cooper, evidence of it, PLENTY. The fact that all of this is true – THAT’S why they felt the need to lie about it. When the spooks come knocking on the boss’s door, the boss lies, breaks a law in doing so, is therefore put on trial.

This thing is so obvious now based on the evidence available for anyone to see, that if this last one with truthout.org was a trick, it’s one of only a few they’ve got left!

  22. captain_menace says:

As far as annexing central America don’t you kind of get the the you broke it you bought it problem.

The possibilities are so enticing. I’d love to have a little strip of Guatemalan coastline. Not a lot, just a hundred feet or so. I’d gladly let all of our neighbors in for a little piece of heaven.

    The latest from OpEdNews.com

It is now 12:39pm on May 17, five days after the publication of Leopold’s article on Truthout. I spoke a few moments ago with William Rivers Pitt who reassured me both that he and Jason were not offended by my Monday article and that they stick by their assertions 100%. I can not tell the entire contents of the conversation as much of it was off the record, but as a result of it, I am going to hold off further speculation until the end of the day on Friday, May 19, or until, how shall I put it, events obviously dictate otherwise. I thank my readers for being patient until then.

  24. captain_menace says:

Well, it’s just about 6:00 pm east coast time. I’d say this is a bogus report.

  25. Right Thinker says:

They were talkin about the weekend of the 12th and the article is dated the 13th so this is a week late already. Monday came and went with nary a sound about Rove.
