WEEK 2 Picks

Winable games both lost by BC and Clemson – Paul and I are down over that…but the Eagles are heading into Death Valley next Saturday and at least one of us will be happy after that. On to the NFL Games:

I don’t like to pick the New England game each week. I have a lot of different reasons, but first of all I don’t think there’s much of a system involved as I’m always going to anticipate them doing well. Truth being, I’d pick them every week. Also, when the game is on, I don’t want to be worrying about anything but what I’m watching. A ‘W’ is a ‘W’ with me when it comes to the Pats. They’re not going to be dominant forever, so I don’t want to be inclined to feel down about a win if they don’t cover…the experience is too valuable.

My first set of picks are games I feel really confident about. Baltimore should be able to run on Tennessee, and McNair never plays well against them. Kansas City and Atlanta look automatic to me, each in games with a 1 point line.

BAL -4 @TEN
KC -1 @ OAK
ATL +1 @SEA

Next I’ve got a series of road underdogs. Last week’s results favored both the home teams and the favorites with seven of them winning, but Arizona and the Jets don’t look like winners. Did Philly look like a 14 point favorite last week? With McNabb hurting, it seems way too high:

STL +1 @ARI
BUF+2.5 @TB
SF +14 @ PHI
JAX+9 @ IND
MIA+6 @ NYJ
SD +3 @ DEN

Then we’ve got Monday night. New Orleans has an x-factor in their favor, and until their bubble is burst, I’m going to stick with them and the three points. Washington is going into Dallas, and 6 points seems like a gift.

NO +3 vs. NYG
DAL-6 vs. WAS

Now the rest:
CIN -3 vs. MIN
DET -1.5 @ CHI
GB -6.5 vs. CLE
PIT -6 @ HOU

This is a risky sheet for week 2, but trends don’t matter much to me this early in the season. Taking 11 road teams.

  1. Paul says:

BC has a fine team and should ne the favorite Chris. It will be a real test for both of our teams. My pick to win it all in the NCAA is Texas. Program on the rise : UTEP. Team in trouble – Oklahoma.

  2. karl says:

    The pats have no chance.

Sorry, but I think the site needs a sorts fan that is as illogical as some of the Bush fans.

    Enjoy the games

We need some chatter on the sports. This is the time of year when I’m REALLY happy. Baseball playoffs, college football, NFL, Celtics…we’ve got the Bruins. I need to get some of the folks in my old email chain stopping by. The politics is thick, and that sends them off most likely.

This Pats game is a barn-burner.

At least Philly made up for last week.

  5. Chris Austin says:

    BAL -4 @TEN Loss
    KC -1 @ OAK Win
    ATL +1 @SEA Loss
    STL +1 @ARI Win
    BUF+2.5 @TB Loss
    SF +14 @ PHI Loss
    JAX+9 @ IND Win
    MIA+6 @ NYJ Loss
    SD +3 @ DEN Push
    CIN -3 vs. MIN Win
    DET -1.5 @ CHI Loss
    GB -6.5 vs. CLE Loss
    PIT -6 @ HOU Win
    NO +3 vs. NYG
    DAL-6 vs. WAS

5-7-1…I knew this week was going to be bad. Too many road underdogs. Still hope to break even after tomorrow night.

  6. Paul says:

Philly is still the best team in their division. A team to watch (on the rise) are the Cincinnati “Bengals”. Early prediction : New England will not repeat as Super Bowl champion.

  7. Chris Austin says:

Cincinnati stops the run and Palmer was a #1 overall pick…could (should) be their year. You’re wrong on the New England prediction!
